Today is World Prematurity Day. As a mom of preemies, I know the struggles they face at birth and can face as they grow up. Sierra was born weighing 4 lbs, 4.8 oz. She was Baby A. (Which she says stands for “Baby Awesome”. heehee) Sienna weighed 1 lb, 7.3 oz. She was Baby B.
My preemies will be 16 next month, but I remember their time in the NICU like it was yesterday.
Each baby looked so frail.
Each parent looked so tired and worried.
I remember the heartbreaking days when some parents had to say goodbye to their babies as they passed away.
I am forever grateful for those NICU nurses who cared for my girls.
I’m forever grateful for the sweet group of ladies who made handmade dresses for Sienna because she was too small to fit into even the smallest of store bought outfits.
And I’ll never forget the day when each of my girls was able to come home from the hospital. Sierra only stayed in the hospital for about 2 weeks. However, Sienna’s initial hospital stay was for 108 long days.
It seems like just yesterday that doctors were telling me that Sienna would never survive, yet here we are now and I’m planning their Sweet 16.
I put together a few facts about premature births and combined it with a picture of Sienna on the day she was born.
