They introduced us to a few Ford representatives who were there and presented a couple of local charities, such as Boys And Girls Country, with donations!
It was a packed theatre filled with families and lots of teenagers with soda and popcorn in hand, and ready to watch the film. “When The Game Stands Tall” is a family-friendly film. It seemed to have been received well by audience members of all ages. There were several times throughout the game when audience members actually clapped.
If you’re unfamiliar with the story, it’s based on a true-story of a high school football team that holds the longest winning streak in sports–even more than professional leagues–over 150 consecutive wins. I suggest not looking up the real story before you go see the film, though. Let it be a surprise. Then, you’ll be so inspired by the movie that you’ll want to go look up more details on the real story.
While it’s family-friendly, I have to say there are some pretty emotionally intense scenes and there are some pretty intense football hits. The foley artists did a good job of emphasizing the sounds of the hard-hitting football plays. There were even a few times when the audience let out a collective, “Oh!” and “Owe!”
Now I admit, I’m actually a “chick who likes football”, so I might be a bit more entertained by this kind of film than others might be and am able to overlook the couple of cheesy lines it may have had, but its overall feel-good effect will make this movie enjoyable for all.
Make sure you stay through the credits because they show clips from the past of the real-life characters.
I’d love for you to come back after you watch it and let me know what you think about it! I hope you like it as much as our family did.
